Irene Timoney Schulz Welling, 96 of Mantua, Ohio passed away at home on February 3, 2022 following a brief illness. Irene was born on September 18, 1925, in Hoboken, New Jersey to Marie O’Meara Timoney and Joseph Michael Timoney. She grew up in Hoboken but was a resident of Shalersville Township and Mantua Village for the past 60 years.
Irene was a 1940 graduate of Our Lady of Grace Grammar School in Hoboken, NJ, a 1944 graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Hoboken and a 1946 graduate of the Drake Business College in New York City.
Irene was a people person, who loved planning and entertaining, always loving to dress for every occasion. She was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mantua, where she volunteered on many committees throughout the years. She served several times as President of the St. Joseph School PTA, chairperson of the Ox Roast Fair kitchen for several years, chair of the Fair booths committee for many years, President of St. Vincent de Paul Society at its inception, and cafeteria monitor before the school closed.
After her first husband died, Irene opened a catering service, hiring friends and family, catering many local weddings and other events over the years. She also retired from service with Dr. Peter Chen in Mantua and Ravenna.
Irene was immensely proud of the accomplishments of her children who survive her: Karen Schulz, Deborah (Jim) Mazanec, Irene (Vic) Milani, Bob (Shelia) Schulz, Patty (Tim) Monroe, Joe (Wanda) Schulz and Marie (Joe) Minard, 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Irene’s siblings Doris Kennedy, Kay (Lenny) Mattarazo, and John Timoney, all of Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her first husband in 1969, Joseph Schulz, and her second husband, George Welling, in 1996.
Calling hours will be held Monday, February 7, 2022, at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio from 10:00 A.M.- 11:30 AM. A funeral Mass will begin at Noon at St. Joseph Church, Pioneer Trail in Mantua. Facial masks and social distancing will be required. Officiating will be Rev. Edward G. Stafford, Pastor, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mantua. Irene will be laid to rest at the Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville Township, Ohio.
