William J. Herbert, 75 years of age, passed away Thursday April 30, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 2, 1944, he was the son of the late Roger and Angela (Smolik) Herbert. A graduate of Crestwood High School in 1962, Mr. Herbert then attended Kent State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1970. He also was a graduate of Dartmouth Business School. His career included being employed at Samuel Moore – Dekron, Eaton Corporation and then at Furon Corporation as Vice-President on International Business from where he retired in 2000. A resident of Mantua, then of Twin Lakes for 20 years, and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, he returned to Mantua in 2019. Mr. Herbert accomplished the registering of over 30 patents in his lifetime, and also owned his business that created after market automotive products. He enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, was an avid fisherman, had a love for exotic sports cars, and the Texas Holdem games with his best friends. He will forever be remembered for the love he had for family, and his attendance at the school events of his children and grandchildren. On October 8, 1966, he married his beloved wife Sophia (Hojsak) Herbert who survives at their home. Also surviving are his devoted children Christopher (Laurel) Herbert of Avon Lake, Heather (John) Shargo of Raleigh, North Carolina, his dear sister Carol Fontanini of Mason, Ohio, and his loving grandchildren Park, Jaret and Madelanah. No calling hours. Private family service is being held. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
