Sherry A. Goodell, 68, of Shalersville, Ohio, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, died at University Hospitals, Portage County, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 following a short illness complicated by Huntington’s Disease. She was born in Ravenna, Ohio on August 9, 1952 and was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary (Anderson) Russell and her father-in-law, Frank H. Goodell. She was also predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Ruth (Russell) and Anton Nielsen and by her maternal grandparents, James and Ella Anderson. On October 2, 2004, Sherry married her cherished husband of 16 years, Bruce Goodell, who survives at the home. She is also survived by her daughter, Melissa (Danny) Phillips and her granddaughter, Madelyne Phillips of Mount Juliet, Tennessee. Also surviving are her sister, Gloria (John) Burgess of Davidson, North Carolina and numerous nephews and nieces who will dearly miss her and many grand-nephews and grand-nieces.Sherry graduated from Ravenna High School in 1970 and was probably best known for the stand that she had for many years on SR 59 in Ravenna where she sold vegetables, fruits, pumpkins and Christmas trees where she made many friends. She was also employed by Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. After her marriage to Bruce, she sold the family’s maple syrup at various area farmers’ markets.The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff for the care and concern they showed to Sherry while at University Hospitals.Visitation will be Saturday January 9, 2021 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255, from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon, where her funeral service will then begin at 12:00 Noon. Officiating will be Pastor Jill Scott of Portage Faith United Church. Final resting place will then follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Twp., Ohio. Facial masks and social distancing will be observed at the funeral home and cemetery. For those unable to attend the funeral service due to limited health care rules, procession to the cemetery will form at the funeral home at 11:45 A.M.
