Robert W. Collins, 79 years of age, passed away Tuesday February 11, 2020. Bob was born in Ravenna, Ohio on March 3, 1940, the son of the late Lewis and Thelma (Cooper) Collins. A Mantua area resident since 1967, he was a member of the Mantua Center Christian Church. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army with honor in the Vietnam Era. He had been employed as a mechanic for most of his life and could fix just about anything. Bob was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hiking, bird watching, and tending to his garden. He was an avid wood worker and a proud volunteer on the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department for 25 years. After his retirement it was easy to find him at Monroe’s Orchard picking apples or at Stehli’s helping on the farm. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his family and he also opened his heart to anybody that his family knew. It didn’t matter if they were friends of his, friends of his grandkids, or friends of anyone else, they were family to Bob. Any time you would see him he would greet you with his own wooden pen in his shirt pocket, suspenders, probably a bird shirt, and a big smile. He was the type of person that when you shook his hand and smiled with him, you felt the warmth in your soul. Not a day will go by that he won’t be missed. We love you. Bob is survived by his wife Karla (Kofron) Collins at home, his daughters Rowena (Mark) Finch of Rootstown and Lorena (Matthew) Hunter of Mantua, his siblings Richard (Pam) Collins of Garrettsville, Barbara (Bill) Sackrider of Michigan and Nel Haithcock of Columbia Station, and his grandchildren Troy (Teddilyn) Hunter, Tyler Mae Hunter, Tara Finch and Trista Finch. He was preceded in death by his brothers Austin and Norman Collins and his sister Shirley Collins. Calling hours will be Saturday February 15, 2020 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St.Rt.44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon where his funeral service will begin at Noon.
