MANTUA
Marion E. Vieland, 97 years of age longtime Mantua resident, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Marion was born on November 27, 1925 in Spokane Washington. She spent her childhood in the Mantua area graduating from Shalersville High School in 1944. She then worked in Cleveland at the Halle’s Department store first as an elevator operator and then selling furniture. She had fun memories of the train ride from Mantua into Cleveland every day. After his return from his service in the Army, she married William Vieland May 7, 1949. She knew when she was a young girl he was the love of her life and reminded all of us what a wonderful man she married. They settled on Herald Street in the Village and happily raised their three children, Richard, David and Karen. She was Mom to many, the place to play and eat her chocolate chip cookies. She involved herself in school activities, PTO and band boosters. Also activities at St. Joseph Catholic church with the OX Roast Fair, Altar and Rosary and funeral dinners. She was an excellent seamstress making majorette outfits one year and helped with 4H sewing groups. Every family member owns a crochet afghan especially designed for them made with her hands even through the pain of arthritis. Her beloved husband Bill preceded her in death in 1998 and her son David in 2014. She still found the strength to carry on and raise grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rocking each of them in a rocker given to her by a cherished neighbor when Richard was born.. The last is 3 year old great grandson Liam. Her love for all will be remembered by her family. Grandchildren, Dan (Tracy) Vieland of Avon, Ohio, Carrie and Nate Vieland of Athens, Ohio, Steve (Jackie) Vieland of Ennis Ireland, Liz (Shane) McGraw of Granville, Ohio and Matt Kuntzman of Canton, Ohio Great grandchildren, Chase, Carter, Annabelle, Simon, Rosalyn, Esther, Joseph and Liam. No calling hours. A private service is being held at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua with Rev. Edward Stafford officiating.
