Linda Moulton Matey, 67 years of age of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on January 21st, 2022, surrounded by family after an extended battle with cancer. She is survived by her son John Matey of Pittsburgh, her sister Cassandra Moulton-Arble (Robert) of Pittsboro, N.C. and her brother Andrew (Tamara) Moulton of Hilliard, Ohio. Linda was born in Chicago to Charles and Jane (Helbig) Moulton who she deeply adored. She spent her formative years in Aurora, Ohio, playing tennis and focusing on her studies. Linda graduated high school early and attended John Carroll University for a year before going to Brown University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in colonial history, and later attended the University of Pittsburgh where she earned her master’s degree in library science.
Linda’s passion for books and helping others was strong. She was a regional manager for Giant Eagle’s book department and later worked as a librarian for over twenty years, eventually becoming the library director. She was loved and respected by her coworkers and worked tirelessly, even when sick, until her illness finally prevented her from doing so.
Those that knew Linda knew her gentle kindness and deep unconditional love for her family, but she exhibited a quiet strength and determination. It was not overt, but she drew upon an unshakable resolve to face insurmountable challenges with grace, dignity, and determination, all with that same kindness and compassion for others.
A graveside funeral service was held Wednesday, January 26, 2022, 1:00 P.M. at Aurora City Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Horak officiating. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where condolences and memories may be viewed at www.greenfamilyfuneralhome.com.
