John E. Stoneberg, Sr., 88 years of age, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 at UH-Portage Medical Center in Ravenna. Born in Horton Township, Pennsylvania on October 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Harry and Josephine (Sabatose) Stoneberg. A graduate of Brockway High School in Pennsylvania, John had been a resident of Mantua since 1967. He was the former owner-operator of John’s Sunoco at Mantua Corners, following which he was employed as a truck driver at Solon Sand & Gravel retiring in 1997. He served with honor in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. John was also proud to serve as a member of the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department from 1969-1984 rising to the position of Lieutentant and was a member of the Firefighters Association. John enjoyed all sports, gardening, fishing, and for many years he and his wife spent Friday nights at the Mantua Knights of Columbus socializing with other area friends. On March 5, 1955, he married Lillian Stoneberg who preceded him in death on February 22, 1998. Also proceeding were his brothers Harry Stoneberg, Jr., William, David and Gary Stoneberg. He is survived by his children John E. (Patricia) Stoneberg, Jr. of North Royalton, Joseph (Lori) Stoneberg, Mary Jo Stoneberg, and Darlene (Wes) Meyer all of Mantua, and Cynthia (Everett) Flaitz of Florida; siblings James Stoneberg of Florida, Kelly (Barb) Stoneberg and Norma Carnesali, both of Pennsylvania. 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren also survive. Calling hours will be Friday February 26, 2021 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., where his funeral service will be held Saturday February 27, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Social Distancing And Face Coverings Will Be Observed. Final resting place will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Township, Ohio with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193. For those unable to attend the funeral service, procession to the cemetery will form at the funeral home at 10:45 A.M.
