James Pearce

January 11, 1930 ~ March 24, 2021 (age 91)



James (Jim) L. Pearce, 91 years of age, passed away Wednesday March 24, 2021. Born on January 11, 1930 at Grove City, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Charles Alexander and Gladys (Stevenson) Pearce. Mr. Pearce grew up in Greenville, Pennsylvania, where he was a 1948 graduate of Penn High School. Mr. Pearce then served his country with honor during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army, where he earned the rank of Sergeant 1st. Class Airborne. He had been employed at Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills as a Tool & Die maker from 1954-1998, retiring after nearly 44 years of dedicated service. Jim was a charter member of Portage Faith United Methodist Church, where he took special joy in helping with the landscaping when the church was built. He enjoyed yardwork, was a fan of Bluegrass music, and loved walking his golden retrievers around Sunny Lake until declining health. On April 2, 1956, he married the love of his life Doris L. Sebring at Angola, Indiana, who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Kevin (Cindy) Pearce of Mantua, Tim (Tammy) Pearce of Macedonia, Rhonda (Kenneth) Grudowski, and Lisa Cutlip, both of Streetsboro. He loved his grandchildren; Ashley (Derick McCauley) Cutlip, Joshua (Cara) Cutlip, Kyle (Carlye) Pearce, Connor (Rachel) Pearce,Jocelyn (Dillon Soard) Pearce, Sam (Madelynn Evans) Grudowski, Max (Emily Espersen) Grudowski, Ben (Emily Kemmerer) Pearce and Sarah Pearce, and great-grandchildren Tayler and Harper McCauley, and Carson, Cayden and Spencer Cutlip. He was preceded in death by his daughter Tracie Simon in February of 2021, siblings Betty Lyon, Virginia Palmer, Robert Pearce, and Joseph Pearce. No calling hours. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday April 10, 2021, 2:00 P.M. at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville with Rev. Carolyn Berry officiating. (All Are Welcome). Procession to the cemetery will form at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 at 1:30 P.M. A gathering at the family residence will immediately follow the cemetery service. Full Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193. Facial masks will be observed at the cemetery.
