Henry W. Haydu, 76 years of age, passed away Monday March 9, 2020 at University Hospital-Geauga Regional Medical Center in Claridon Township, Ohio. Born in East Cleveland, Ohio on October 31, 1943, he was the son of the late John and Elsie (Horn) Haydu. A resident of the Mantua area since 1970, Mr. Haydu was a 1961 graduate of Solon High School, and then a 1965 graduate of Kent State University with a degree in Education. He then taught at Bedford High School in the Industrial Arts Department for 30 years, retiring in 1996. A longtime member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, he recently attended Christ Lutheran Church. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Rod & Gun Club. Mr. Haydu was a man of many talents that included his woodworking skills having made much of the furniture at the family home. An avid gardener, he not only grew food for his family, but will be remembered for his generosity in sharing with others. His garden was once seen on PBS as the Regional winner for Victory Garden. Annually he will also be remembered for his donation to the 4 C’s as just another manner by which he shared with others. He is survived by his wife Susan L. (Hansen) Haydu at home, his sons Brian Haydu of Mantua and David (Jessica) Haydu of Cuyahoga Falls; his brother Larry (Shirley) Haydu of Solon, and his granddaughter Lillian, and many other loving family members. Preceding him in death was his brother John “Duke” Haydu. No calling hours. Cremation has been held. A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday March 14, 2020, 11:00 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church, 10827 St.Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 with Pastor Dan Esala officiating. A time of fellowship will immediately follow at the church.
