Gerard W. Jansen, Sr., 84 years of age, passed away Tuesday March 30, 2021 at UH-PMC in Ravenna, Ohio. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 3,1937, he was the son of the late Pancraitus and Martha (Kirschmann) Jansen. He grew up in Pittsburgh, and had been employed as a box car loader at Papercraft Corporation, from where he retired. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jansen was a longtime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gerard loved horses, camping, boxing which included being an instructor, history buff, and the cherished times spent with his family. On July 4, 1964, he married Ida M. Jansen who preceded him in death in 2010. Also preceding were his sons Donald, Paul, and Pat Rigby, and siblings James and Dave Jansen, and Kathleen Jansen. He is survived by his children Kevin (Peggy) Rigby of Pittsburgh, Clark (Rose) Rigby of Ravenna, Gerard W. Jansen, Jr. of Shalersville, Donna Jansen of Ravenna, and Kathleen (Anthony) Andrews of Tenn. His sister Virginia Fingal of Pennsylvania, 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Visitation will be Saturday April 3, 2021 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255, from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon, where his funeral service will then begin at Noon. Facial coverings and social distancing will be required. Final resting place will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp., Pennsylvania, where full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard Team.
