MANTUA

Gary L. Bailey, 72 years of age, passed away Tuesday November 3, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born in Ravenna, Ohio on August 2, 1948, the son of the late Freeman “Red”, and Mildred “Midge” (Wick) Bailey. A lifetime Mantua area resident, Gary had attended Crestwood Schools. Gary had been employed at General Motors Lordstown beginning in 1966 from where he retired, and was a member of UAW Local # 1112 in Lordstown. He also was a member of  the National Turkey Federation of Ohio. While nature and wildlife were part of his life, he also was well versed in History and Native American Artifacts. Gary’s fine woodworking skills were also present in the Bailey family  home.  Gary truly was an outdoors man, as fishing, boating, turkey and deer hunting, and walking the woods were his favorite pastimes. He also took great pride in the growing of tomatoes in his garden, where the size of his labors were known to many. Each year Gary and his family spent time in the gathering of morel mushrooms, and along with the summer months spent at their Lake Erie retirement residence, more fond times were experienced. Cherished memories of his love for family and friends will always be remembered, and his love shone like a beacon to guide his family and loved ones. On November 11, 1967, he married his beloved wife Susan (Fairchild) Bailey who survives at their home. Also surviving are his devoted children Timothy (Maria) Bailey of Shalersville, Gregory (Heather) Bailey of Windham, and Shawnya (Michael) Monreal of Hiram; his dear siblings Richard (Christine) Bailey and Kevin (Kathy) Bailey both of Garrettsville, Keith (Sandra) Bailey and Jeffrey Bailey both of Windham, and Cynthy Bailey of Mantua. He was the loving “Papa” to 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved dog Sadie. No calling hours. In lieu of flowers and contributions at this time, the family suggests that other acts of kindness be given at his Celebration of Life which will be announced at a later date.  Final resting place will be at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Township, Ohio.  Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where condolences and memories may be viewed at www.greenfamilyfuneralhome.com.
