Eleanor M. Monroe (nee Profant) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 14, 2021 at the age of 94. Wife to Kenneth, father to Todd and Tim, proud Grandma and Great Grandma to 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Eleanor was born on December 22, 1926 in Mantua to Yaro and Anna (Cihlar) Profant. While she spent most of her life in Mantua, throughout her childhood she and her family would also spend winters in Davenport and Kissimmee, Florida. But it was Mantua that was home to her. She attended Mantua Township Schoolhouse, where she met her beloved Kenneth. She was a cheerleader and participated in the school play. She graduated in 1945. In 1947 she married Kenneth Monroe of Mantua and they had 73 years of marriage together before his passing in 2020. Together, they lived on her family’s land as they enjoyed watching their family and community grow.
She commuted by train to downtown Cleveland to work at Aetna Insurance. This is where she worked during WWII and where she was when she learned the war was over. She later worked at Corafac in Mantua and Doc’s Disposal in Aurora.
Proud matriarch, friend to all, and no-nonsense with a heart of gold. She loved gardening, being outdoors, and cooking and baking for family and friends. Being a mother and grandma was her pride and joy; she never missed her sons’ or grandkids’ games, matches, or recitals. She had sleepovers, played Play-Doh, countless SeaWorld trips, and shared stories about her and Kenny’s life together.
Eleanor will be reunited with her husband, Kenny, and her parents, Yaro and Anna (Cihlar). She is survived and will be missed by her son Todd and his wife Vicki, son Tim and his wife Patty, grandkids Danielle Underwood (Jim), Brittany Resh (Donnie), Sarah Momirovic (George), Jared Monroe (Ashley), Joe Monroe (Maggie), Matt Monroe (Madison), and great-grandchildren Lila, Tripp, Carter, Pippa, Decker, Eleanor, and Adeline.
