Edwin Leferink

MANTUA

Edwin B. Leferink, 99 years of age (just short of his 100th birthday) of Mantua, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 at his home.  Born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 24, 1923, he was the son of the late Edward and Eliza (Pierre) Leferink.  He was a Mantua area resident since 1951, where he attended Hilltop Christian Church.  Ed had been employed as an accountant with the Erie Lackawanna Railroad from where he then retired.  During WWII, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp, and among his awards were the Purple Heart.  He was a member of the Mantua American Legion Post #193, and V.F.W. Post #1055 in Ravenna.  He formerly was a 50 year member of Mantua Masonic Lodge #533 F.A.M.  Ed served his community as a longtime member of the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department, and in addition his service to other fire departments spanned a period of over 41 years.   He enjoyed golfing, cooking, and will be remembered as a devoted family man to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  On February 21, 1948 he married Emma Leferink who survives at home.  Additional survivors include his daughter Kathryn Roman of Daytona Beach, Florida, grandchildren Rae Ann, Erin, Sarah, Jimmy, and great- grandchildren Riley, Cole, and Avery.  His daughter-in-law Bonnie Leferink of Ravenna, also survives.  He was preceded in death by his son Michael Leferink.  Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. to11:00 A.M. at The Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, where his funeral service will then begin at 11:00 A.M.  Words of comfort will be shared by members of his family, followed by a brief presentation from Chaplin Jesse Crate.  Full Military honors will then be provided by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion.  The Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department will be present to honor his continuous service. Ed will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery on Tuesday May 30, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. Procession to the cemetery will form at the funeral home at 9:45 A.M. with Eds last ride aboard a fire truck from his department.
