Edward L. Stanton, Sr., 71 years of age, passed away Sunday November 22, 2020 at University Hospital-Geauga Medical Center. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 2, 1949, he was the son of the late William F. and Elizabeth K. (Kain) Stanton. Ed was a Mantua resident since 1960, and a member of the Mantua Center Christian Church. He had been active with the Potato Stomp, coached girls’ softball for 8 years, and was a member of the Western Reserve Tractor Pull Association. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Ed had been employed at Eaton Corporation for 42 years as a material handler. During the Viet Nam Era, Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. On March 8, 2003, he married Cathy J. (Luker) Stanton who survives at home. Also surviving are his children Edward L. (Nicolle) Stanton, Jr. of Champion Twp., Jeremy J. (Jennifer) Stanton of Uniontown, Karolyn R. Stanton of Cuyahoga Falls; step-daughters Karen (Thom) Gilman, Kristen (John) Sanders, Amanda (Troy) Haidet and Kelly Ward; siblings Donald M. Stanton of Maryland, Timothy M. Stanton of Florida, Tobias S. Stanton of Mass., Benjamin L. (Jessica) Stanton of PA., Linda E. (Bob) French of Maryland; half-siblings James Oldham, Melanie Pierce, Julie Noll, Laura LaRusch, and Naomi Gerboth. He is survived by 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and his best friend Dave Harper of Mantua. Preceding him in death was his brother Bart Stanton. No calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 5, 2021 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua at a time to be announced later. Pastor Chad Delaney will officiate. Military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193 will take place at the funeral home.
