Obituary

HIRAM

Donald E. Spencer, 91 years of age, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at UH-Geauga  Medical Center from complications due to Covid-19. Born at Nelson Township, Ohio on April 6, 1930, he was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Norton) Spencer. A lifelong resident of the Hiram and Nelson areas, Mr. Spencer had been employed at Geauga Industries in Middlefield as a Tool & Die Maker for 31 years. He also was a partner with his son Glenn in the Oil Field Servicing Company , Spencer’s Water Service. Gardening, and the family farm,  remained a part of his entire life, only leaving his heritage during the time he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Spencer was well known for his racing of Standard Breed horses at Northfield Park, Wheeling, West Virginia, and Buffalo, New York. While his passing leaves a void to all, he will forever be remembered for his love of family, and their get togethers  for years to come. On June 20, 1952, he married Marilyn (Hertzog) Spencer who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Glenn and Sandra Spencer, Paul and Maryellen Spencer, and Donna Spencer, all of Hiram. His sister Janet Phelps of Garrettsville, grandchildren Parker (Ashley) Spencer, Hanna (Jon) Vojtush, and Maddison (Charlie) Egli, and great-grandchildren Chip Vojtush and Wyatt Spencer also survive. He was preceded in death by his siblings David Spencer, Dorothy Spencer, Ruth Vancura, and Glenn’s son Richard Dyer.
