Robert M. Weeks, 72 years of age, passed away Saturday June 2, 2018 at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio. Born on February 4, 1946 in New London, CT., he was the son of the late Glenn and Fostine (Ryea) Weeks. A former longtime Windham resident he was a 1964 graduate of Windham High School, and had resided in Aurora the past 28 years. He had been employed at Reynolds Aluminum in Aurora as a Plant and Q.A. manager retiring in 1998. Bob was an avid fisherman throughout his entire life. He hosted many fishing trips with numerous friends on his boat “Redeye” named after his wife’s red hair and his love for walleye fishing. The last several years his greatest joy came from fishing with his best friend Jerry Clayton. They shared many great times on Mosquito Lake catching crappie. When Bob was no longer able to go fishing, Jerry kept Bob supplied with his favorite fish. He also enjoyed many great trips with his buddy Louie and always came home with a smile on his face after their outings. Bob also made sure his nephews Landon and Zander got to experience the joy of fishing. He loved gardening and growing beautiful flowers. He enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics and his events were the Javelin and Discus. He received many ribbons, but his favorite was a first place from the State meet in the State of Vermont where he lived until about the age of 12. Bob tried an event that he had never participated in before. It was the long jump and he broke his leg. But he said it was worth it because he came in 2nd. Place! He was quite the competitor. Bob was extremely proud of his military service having served in the Vietnam Era in the 3rd. Battalion, 3rd. Marines as a Cpl. He was very instrumental in helping other Veterans receive their disability benefits because of exposure to Agent Orange. He was diligent in checking on the progress of claims for his friends. He and his oldest friend Ron had many discussions about their experiences in the service. They also seemed to delight in seeing who could insult the other the worst. Men have an odd way of showing their love for one another. He enjoyed showing his Golden Retriever Shamus at obedience dog shows and was proud of a first place ribbon when Shamus was only 6 months old. He had a love for animals his entire life and his most recent companion Buddy, whom he adored. He was a salt of the earth, call ‘ em as he saw ‘em kind of guy and you always knew where you stood with Bob. Even though he put on such a tough guy front, everyone knew he had such a big heart. He was always there to provide support for family and friends whenever they needed it. His presence will be sorely missed by his entire family and many friends. On July 25, 1970, he married his beloved wife Lois A. (DeLong) Weeks who survives at their home. Also surviving are his dear siblings Russell (Suki) Weeks of North Dakota, Barbara (Rich) Glendenning of Garrettsville and Judy (Gene) Owens of Windham, and many other loving nieces and nephews.
