Robert Lee Schwan, Sr., 80 years of age, passed away Friday February 23, 2018 at his residence. Born in Marion, Wisconsin on May 31, 1937, he was the son of the late William and Mabel (Beckman) Schwan. Mr. Schwan graduated from high school in Mars, Pennsylvania, and had been a Garrettsville area resident since 1955. Mr. Schwan and his father worked together building the Ohio Turnpike, and was a self-employed contractor for many years operating Schwan Landscaping & Construction, as well as farming in Freedom Township. Bob enjoyed NASCAR Races that included going to Daytona each year, and was a member of the “Garrettsville Group” that played cards each week for many years. His family was very important, and fond memories of the family trips traveling the U.S. will always be cherished. On September 14, 1957, he married his beloved wife Thelma (Fountain) Schwan who survives at their home. Also surviving are his devoted children Jeffrey (Rhonda) Schwan of Georgia, Robert L. (Lisa) Schwan, Jr. of Garrettsville, Dianna (David) Savick of Garrettsville, Karen (Robert) Burrows of Freedom Twp., and Delores Schwan of Garrettsville; dear siblings William Schwan of Garrettsville and Marilyn Lutz of Lake Lure, North Carolina; 10 loving grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Howard Schwan. Visitation will be Tuesday February 27, 2018 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon, with his funeral service to begin at 12:00. Final resting place will follow at Park Cemetery, Garrettsville, Ohio.
