Pastor James C. Beatty, 77 years of age, became Our Gift to God on Tuesday February 20, 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Pastor Beatty was God’s Gift to Us on October 7, 1940 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late James Clyde and Grace (Brainard) Beatty. Pastor Beatty lived in the Garrettsville-Troy Township area the past 41 years. While attending Austintown Fitch High School, he was a star fullback, and graduated in 1959. He then entered the U.S. Navy, and following a time of service to his country, he then began his work serving his Lord, graduating from the Akron Bible Institute. He pastored in Lumberport, West Virginia and Springboro, Pennsylvania. In 1976 he moved to the Troy Baptist Church, where he founded the Christian School and Boarding School Ministry. The Church At Troy continued his good works, where in 2012 he went from Senior Pastor to Pastor Emeritus. Pastor Beatty was one of the founders of the Steel Valley Christian Conference Basketball League for kids. Over his years of serving, he became known as a big hearted man of God who would reach out to many young people teaching the values of respect to others, tempered with his love, and that of God. A smile known to those who crossed his path will forever be remembered by all. An avid sports fan of all Ohio teams, “Go Bucks” would best describe his rally cheer. In addition, he was very active in Youth Camp, loved to shop, and gardening and fishing were also favorite pastimes. On March 14, 1964, he married his beloved wife Charlotte K. ( Tomlinson) Beatty who survives at their home. Also surviving are his devoted children Paul (Twila) Beatty of Sutton, West Virginia, Stephen (Rachel) Beatty of Garrettsville, James (Jacquie) Beatty of Portland, Oregon, Beth Ann (Tim) Severt of Mackinaw, Illinois and StarLynn Buchanan of North Ridgeville, Ohio; his dear brother Todd (Pat) Beatty of Florida; 25 loving grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
