Joanne Stamm Tillett, beloved mother and longtime school teacher, died Wednesday January 2, 2019, at University Hospitals, in Bedford, surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old. Born on March 30, 1928, in Shalersville Township, she was the youngest of seven children of the late Archie and Gertrude (Quinn) Stamm of Shalersville. Joanne graduated from Shalersville High School in 1945, before attending Ohio State University and earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kent State University. Joanne educated generations of students in her more than 30 years as a teacher, most of it at Shalersville Elementary School. After her retirement, she continued to stay active as a member of the SOFTies (Shalersville Old Fart Teachers). She married Everett Tillett Jr. on October 18, 1947. Together they raised seven children, hosted many international students, and were actively involved in their community and with Portage Faith United Methodist Church. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before Everett died on December 13, 2004. Great traveling partners, they visited too many states and countries to count with their loyal dog, Beamer, often by their side. Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers Paul, Ted and Roy Stamm; and sisters Polly Bramley, Ella Lou Guyette and Zoa Craumer. Joanne is survived by her sons Dan (Linda), Matt (Patty) and Dave (Therese); daughters Pat (Frank) Janecek, Sandy Ferguson, Linda (Steve) Weinkamer and Becky Lyttle; grandchildren Paul (Philippe), Michelle (Scott), Jennie (Rich), Addie (Ted), Corri (Martin), Luke (Emily), Jake, Marta (Daniel), Caitlin (Jessie), Andy (Libby), Scott (Amanda) , Mindy (Brian), Kristin (Steve), Sean, Sarah, Evan, Quinn, Sam, Molly, Jack and honorary granddaughter Abbey; 34 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and countless friends. The Tillett family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Avenue at Aurora, whom Jo considered her second family. Joanne’s family would like to invite friends and families to join them in a celebration of this amazing woman’s life.
