Janet L. Barkhurst, “Mrs. B.”, 82 years of age, passed away Friday October 20, 2017. The daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. F.L. Rogers, she was born on January 1, 1935 in Mannington, West Virginia. Janet was blessed with a talent for making friends wherever she went and she touched the lives of many near and far. She was also a member of Portage Faith United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching for the Portage Play and Learn school for 17 years. This was when she became affectionately known as “Mrs. B.” This name was adopted by the community, family, friends and various groups that she volunteered with including Crestwood sports teams, The Crestwood Coalition for Community Care in Mantua and her church. Her family was the center of her life and she considered many close friends as family. She was a genuine example of an angel on earth for everyone she had an impact upon. She lived a life full of faith and god’s grace and will be deeply missed by many. Survivors include her sons Loren (wife, Christine) of Rootstown, Brad (wife, Judy) of Knoxville TN; daughters Wendy Hunt (husband, Jim) of Kent, Virginia Schemrich (husband, Tom) of Fairview Park and Eleanor Hornick (husband, Rob) of Cranberry, PA; 6 grandchildren who were the loves of her life: Kyle, Cody, Brandi, Courtney, Hannah and Harlee along with her brother, Dr. Jack Rogers (wife, Patty) of Orville. Her husband Lewis and brother Charles died previously. Janet is also survived by her dear angels: Jane Schaeffer, Terri Wilde, Ruth O’Donnell, Barb Graham, Ursula Ficht and Andy Youngblood. She wishes that any memorials or donations be given in her name to the Portage Faith United Methodist Church and/or Crestwood 4C’s food cupboard.
