James N. Hanson, 84 years of age, passed away Sunday December 17, 2017 at UH-Geauga Regional Medical Center in Claridon Township, Ohio. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Alvan and Gwendolyn ( McNeel ) Hanson. Mr. Hanson was a resident of the Chagrin Falls and Auburn Township areas the past 26 years. He was a 1952 graduate of Shaw High School, following which he attended Case Institute of Technology and was a graduate of the Class of 56 with a Bachelor of Science. He later earned his Master’s in Astronomy in 1962 from Case Institute of Technology. Mr. Hanson served his country in the U.S. Army during which time he travel worldwide for our government in the Army Map Service. He was employed at TRW Platt Avenue Division, then at Battelle in Columbus, Ohio. His career continued at the Carnegie Institute of Washington doing field work in Chile. Returning to Ohio, Mr. Hanson was a Professor at Fenn College, which became Cleveland State University. In 1971, he assisted with the development of the Computer Science Program at CSU where he remained as a Professor until his retirement in 1993. On January 13, 1962, he married Kathryn Suzanne “Sue” ( Lega) Hanson who survives at their home. Also surviving are his sons Hjalmar U. Hanson of Chagrin Falls and Christopher L. ( Mary ) Hanson of Bainbridge Township, and his grandchildren Charles, Jack, Maggie, Sam, Molly, Jessie and Ben. Mr. Hanson was a longtime member of the Mantua Country Baptist Church, where his memorial visitation will be held Saturday December 23, 2017 from 12:00 Noon-1:30 P.M. A Memorial Service to Celebrate his Life will then begin at 2:00 P.M. at the Church with Pastor Murray Bay officiating. Immediately following there will be a time of fellowship at the church. Final resting place will be held at a later date at Shadyside Cemetery, Auburn Township, Ohio.
