James W. Cofojohn, 69 years of age, became Our Gift to God on Saturday March 31, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. James was God’s Gift to Us on March 16, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Herbert and Margaret (Hafemeister) Cofojohn. A lifetime area resident, Jim graduated from Crestwood Schools in 1967, following which he attended Kent State University. Beginning while in high school, Jim learned the carpenter trade, and then worked side by side with his brother Tom, and uncle Bill Hafemeister as a carpenter at S&H Construction. An avid golfer, he competed in the Portage County Amateur, and was a member of the Wednesday Night golf league at Sugar Bush in Garrettsville. He also was a member of the APA pool league out of the Streetsboro V.F.W. Post 9716. A very devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mantua, he had served as a Eucharistic Minister, and he practiced his faith in all that he lived. Memories of the love he had for music, especially Jazz and the Blues, the family vacations with Kathy and the children will forever be cherished by those who mourn the passing of this gentle human being. On March 20, 1992, he married his beloved wife Kathleen (Notz) Cofojohn who survives at their home. Also surviving are his devoted children William Reeves of Ohio, Alex (Laura) Coletta of Cuyahoga Falls, Carrie (Thomas) Signoretti of Wells, Maine and Cortney Coletta of Akron; dear siblings Tom (Leslie) Cofojohn and Kenny (Tonya) Cofojohn both of Mantua, Marty Cofojohn of Ravenna, Dan (Kathy) Cofojohn of Palmyra, Linda (Len) Shoun of Kent, Cindy (Bob) Atkinson of Ravenna and Connie (Doug) Heritage of Garrettsvile, and his 5 loving grandchildren Tommy, Jimmy, Julie, Sophia and Mason. Calling hours will be Thursday at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M., where closing prayers will be said Friday at 9:15 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday April 6, 2018, 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 11045 St. Joseph Blvd., Mantua, Ohio 44255 with Fr. Edward Stafford officiating. Final resting place will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville.
