Gordon Leo Vanderpool, 78 years of age, passed away Wednesday June 20, 2018 at the Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. Born in Binghamton, New York on April 19, 1940, he was the loving son of the late Francis and Alva (Kahler) Vanderpool. A longtime resident of Tennessee, he had been employed as a block layer and carpenter, and assisted with the building of many neighbor’s homes.Mr. Vanderpool was a true handyman who enjoyed sharing his skills to help others. He had many interests that included coon hunting, shooting pool, deer hunting and fishing, watching the History channel on TV and Blue Grass, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also played the banjo and guitar to the enjoyment of all family and friends. His son Gordon Ray will always cherish the memories of “Dad” teaching him how to fish when he was only three years old. Survivors include his beloved children Gordon Ray (Suzanne) Vanderpool of Otto, North Carolina, Johnny Lowe of Edinburg, Ohio, Gary Cogar of Jefferson, Pennsylvania and Cathy (Doug) Hoskins of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; dear siblings Walter (Sherry) Vanderpool and Jerry Vanderpool and Bonnie Moore, all of Ravenna, Ohio, Raymond (Bonnie) Vanderpool of Mantua, Helen (Steve) Kaminski of Streetsboro, and Judith Johnson and Janice (Butch) Anderson both of Oakwood Village; 7 loving grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters Marilyn Dunken and Susan Buskirk. Calling hours will be Friday June 29, 2018 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M., where his funeral service will be held Saturday June 30, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. with Mr. Richard Vanderpool officiating.
