Florence “Valerie” Miller
On May 12, 2017 our God in heaven welcomed Valerie from the loving arms of her devoted husband Robert (Bob) Miller and surrounded by her loving children. She was born April 26, 1943 and was the youngest daughter of the late Frank W. and Phyllis A. Small. Valerie and Bob were married May 23, 1964 and would have celebrated 53 years of marriage in a few short weeks. They have 3 devoted children who will miss her terribly and over the years found out they were all her “favorite”; Son Michael (Faye) Miller of Freedom, daughter’s Denise (Darin) Cook and Pam (John) Trew both of Shalersville. She was a special Grandma to Allyson (Mike), Tiffany, Katie, Micky, Derrick, Valerie and Stephen, and Great Grandma to Braxton and Collin. She was a Sister in Law to Jeannette Bonner, and Aunt to Kimberly Bray, Mark and Karen Lachinsky, Great Aunt to Kelly Jo Dogan,Danielle Vance and Kira and Paul Lachinsky, and Best friend of almost 50 years Liz (Woody) Novy. A graduate of Orange High School in 1962, Valerie was employed and loved her job working with the children and staff at The Hattie Larlham Foundation before taking a medical retirement in 2013 after 16 years of service. Prior to working at Hattie Larlham, Valerie was employed as a waitress for 20 years at the Hudson Brown Derby before its closing. She loved spending time with her husband going to car shows, and just being with family and friends. She had a gift that made you feel so important and special, and a great sense of humor. She loved shopping for a deal, the outdoors, fishing, gardening, all animals, Christmas, sports, all genres of music and was a fantastic cook. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her loving sister Judith Perkins whom she reunited with in 2012 after 46 plus years of searching, brother Roy Small, nephew Joseph and niece Pam, and by her loving mother in law and father in law Evelyn and Louis Miller. Special thanks to those who went the extra mile these last few difficult years. We will be forever grateful for your love, loyalty and kindness you showed our sweet wife and mother.
