Douglas T. Shead, 46 years of age, passed away Saturday June 2, 2018 at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Born in Garfield Hts., Ohio on December 13, 1971, he was the son of the late Floyd and Betty (Pommier) Shead. A lifetime Portage County resident, Doug had been a Ravenna resident since 2009. Doug was a 1990 graduate of Crestwood High School, and was employed at Viking Forge in Streetsboro in the maintenance department. Doug truly enjoyed the outdoors including camping with his family, and where he could share his culinary skills as “Chef Doug” presiding over a grill or smoker to the enjoyment of all. He will forever be remembered as a man who loved his children, family and friends just as much as they returned that love with him. Those who mourn his passing in such a tragic way at this time will forever have the wonderful memories that were created with Doug with his time here on earth. He also had been a coach with the Ravenna Parks & Recreation Department. Doug is survived by his beloved wife Julianne “Juli” (Mullin) Shead and his loving and cherished children including twin sons Austin and Garrett, Bubba, Cristine, Amanda and Marlana; his dear siblings David (Lila) Shead of Hinckley, Ohio, Julie (Dean) Kohanyi of Cranberry Twp. Pennsylvania and Patti (Tom) Walker of New Boston, Michigan; his caring friends The Simko Family, Dean Vickers and Benny Stout, as well as many other loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving nephew “Danny Boy” Kohanyi in 1987.His family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful and compassionate doctors, nurses and staff in the Trauma & Surgical Unit at University Hospital. Calling hours will be Friday at the Green Family Funeral Home and Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M., where his funeral service will be held Saturday June 9, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. Officiating will be Pastor Robert Henderson of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bainbridge Twp. Doug will then be laid to rest at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Twp., Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to assist with the education of his children and envelopes are available at the funeral home.
