Charles "Charlie" Simons, Jr.

March 25, 1943 ~ August 3, 2018 (age 75)

MANTUA

Charles C. “Charlie” Simons, Jr., 75 years of age, passed away Friday August 3, 2018 at his residence. Born in Youngstown, Ohio on March 25, 1943, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Masbacher) Simons. A 1961 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Charlie then attended and graduated from Youngstown State University in 1970 with a degree in Education. Charlie was a Mantua area resident for over 50 years where he was employed by the Crestwood School  District  until his retirement as a history and science teacher at the Middle School. While at Crestwood he also served as a football  and wrestling coach, and was assistant wrestling coach during the 1975-1976 period when Crestwood earned  their State Championship. He loved all sports, and also was a referee for all sports at Crestwood. Over the years, Charlie also was employed at numerous area businesses, where his colorful personality will always be remembered. He loved Bingo, playing cards with his many friends, and those Lottery Tickets. Those who knew Charlie will forever remember him as a special person, and his family will cherish the love he had for them, and their love for Charlie. Survivors include his son Chase Simons of New York. New York, his daughter Melanie (Chris) Novotny of Mantua, brother William (Cindy) Simons of Boardman, Ohio and his grandchildren Rosalie and C.J., and his nieces Kimberly (Thomas) Cox, Allison (Jonathan) Peters and nephew Jason (Cathy) Simons and special family friend Amanda Simons.  Also surviving is his former wife Cheryl Burke of Garrettsville. He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Simons. Calling hours will be Wednesday August 8, 2018 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. with closing prayers to follow. Cremation will then take place. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Crestwood All Sports Boosters in his name.
