CHAGRIN FALLS


William Reece Spencer, Jr., 95 years of age, passed away Saturday December 18,2010 at the Hamlet Village Manor in Chagrin Falls. Bill was born on August 1, 1915 in Hiram, Ohio the son of the late William R. and Vesta (Baker) Spencer, Sr.A graduate of Hiram High School, Bill was a stellar basketball player there, as well at the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance where he graduated from also. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army Ordnance during World War II, and served in the Army Reserve while working in administration for the Diamond Shamrock Corporation in Cleveland, from where he retired in 1980.Bill was an avid golfer and big band  and jazz enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his brothers Kelly and James Spencer. Survivors include his brother Richard (Evelynne) Spencer and sister-in-law Marilane  Spencer both of Hiram and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. No calling hours.Bill will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Hiram at a later date. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
